FAQ
What is Clinical Pilates?
Clinical Pilates is a specialized form of Pilates used for chronic pain management, injury prevention, and rehab. Clinical Pilates classes are conducted by certified Clinical Pilates Instructors or physiotherapists with a deep understanding of biomechanics, exercise physiology, and pathology.
What is the difference between a Clinical Pilates and a Classical/Contemporary Pilates Instructor?
Clinical Pilates Instructors are qualified to conduct thorough Clinical Assessments, scan for “red flags” and other serious pathologies and review your medical history including x-rays and any tests you might have done. They will enquire about your injury and your lifestyle and take a holistic whole-body approach addressing not only the physical aspects of your well-being but also the emotional, physiological, and social aspects.
For that reason, Clinical Pilates Instructors can offer more comprehensive strategies. This may involve working with healthcare professionals such as psychotherapists, physical therapists, and doctors to ensure the best possible outcome.
What are the benefits of Clinical Pilates?
There are many! At MAYA Rehab Pilates, Clinical Pilates classes are tailored to help you heal, conquer pain, reclaim control over your body, improve your biomechanics, increase resilience, and rebuild your mind and body connection. I am not injured; can I join Clinical Pilates Classes?
Absolutely!
Apart from injury prevention, Clinical Pilates classes will help you become stronger, improve your posture, have more energy and strength for daily tasks, sleep better, regain confidence, and be able to move fearlessly and with ease, with less anxiety and a better mood. You will become stronger, leaner, and more in control of your body.
What should I expect from my first appointment?
An initial appointment is 75 minutes. In addition to your Clinical Pilates session, it will include a Clinical Assessment, a detailed examination of your history, a physical examination, and a discussion of any specific exercises and strategies that will support your healing.
What should I bring to my first appointment?
Please come in comfortable clothes, ready to move. If you wear dance shoes, and/or have a question about your shoes, bring them too! Naturally, please bring any information from past medical providers, scans, or image findings.
How many sessions will I need?
Although everyone is unique, a typical treatment time for a performance-related injury is 5-10 sessions. We highly recommend that those who participate in elite activities continue their care with weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly follow-up appointments. This allows us to prevent any new injuries and continue to build on your performance goals.
